Thailand has always been popular for their great beaches and breathtaking sceneries. But unbeknownst, especially for first-time tourists, located somewhere down south in the province of Krabi, is another “travel must” that presents an entirely new and different face of Thailand, unique from the usual destinations like Bangkok, Ayutthaya and Phuket.
As I usually go after places that really complements my personality and taste, I figured that there’s no better place to stay in Krabi than Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa, a massive 5-star property that is home to Thailand’s largest hotel swimming pool. Isn’t that awesome?
Sofitel Krabi, unlike most hotels, is rather isolated. Yet, it is strategically located at the province’s east coast, making it the best spot for both relaxation, nature-tripping and leisure. Located 20 minutes away from Ao Nang Beach, the main tourist spot in Krabi, Sofitel boasts of having everything that any guest will ever need.
Upon arrival and check-in at the hotel, I experienced straightaway VIP treatment that is nothing less than supreme. They have a special counter or Club Room for guests who are checked-in at their highly-rated suites. There, I was warmly welcomed by Sofitel’s Property Manager, Recreation and Sports Supervisor and guests services staff. After which, I was courteously escorted to the Opera Suite – the highest of their room categories – and, much to my expectations, everything about it was impeccable and way beyond gold standards!
What really stood out about Sofitel Krabi, for me, was its classic vintage yet very sophisticated ambiance. My space alone was an astonishing 103 sqm. suite that has direct access to the enormous pool. The room also has a grand bed room fit for a king, an elegant living room that spells out high-class, and a luxurious dome-shaped bath tub that is so relaxing, you would want to stay there for hours. Stylish doors lead to our private balcony, which has its own pool benches, perfect for dipping by the pool or simply slackening under the sun.
Compared to my recent vacation in Phuket – which I intended for pure relaxation – I indulged on a simple itinerary for this Krabi trip with my photographer friend, Jorel Valmores. Sofitel arranged a private tour for us that allowed us to visit the whole expanse of the PhiPhi Islands via our own luxury speedboat. PhiPhi Islands, being the most popular travel destination in Thailand – as far as island hopping is concerned – is where you can visit many mesmerizing lagoons and witness various species of marine life. Right after our PhiPhi Islands tour, we set off to another group of islands that are majestically connected by sand bars during low tide: Tub Island, Poda Island and the iconic Chicken Island, which is distinct for its rock formation that resembles the head of… what else… a chicken!
As anticipated, the hotel does pretty much have everything that any guest may need; and my 3-day stay was quite not enough to experience all the extravagance. Sofitel has their own golf course, luxurious spa, wellness center, cafe, ice-cream bar and quite a few restaurants. The hotel also has their own recreation and fitness facility that is open 24/7; and with complete set of equipment and a sauna to match, any fitness enthusiast can be assured of a good workout experience. But, my daily workout routines were made even more special – thanks to Reebok Philippines for providing me with stylish and comfortable gym apparels that fit me seamlessly.
Altogether, I totally enjoyed my vacation at Sofitel Krabi and would I definitely recommend this place to my friends. The over-the-top service that Sofitel offers their patrons truly makes it the ideal place-to-be for families, lovers, and even solo-travelers. A lavish three-day accommodation there may be expensive, but, believe me, the surreal experience is surely worth every penny.
